What Is Hypnotherapy

 Hypnotherapy is a therapy that uses hypnosis. This is an altered state of consciousness, which can be achieved on one’s own but more effectively with help, which allows the programmed parts of the mind to be bypassed and changed.

 This allows the hypnotherapist to help you to break harmful habits and replace them with a positive mindset. Since the sessions are always led by your needs and the issues that are being addressed, no standard procedure can be given for a hypnotherapy session.

What Is Hypnotherapy Used For?

 Hypnotherapy has a wide range of uses to treat not only psychological conditions but also many physical ones. For example, it’s been successfully used to treat conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and eczema.

It’s also extensively used for issues such as:

  • addictions
  • anger management
  • lack of confidence
  • problems with taking exams
  • fears and phobias
  • stress and anxiety
  • stopping smoking
  • weight control

 Change must be your decision, though. The decision to use Hypnotherapy is a decision to change — to change decisions that always lead to the same result, to change habits that are holding you back. As long as you recognise the need for change and imagine a better way of living, Hypnotherapy can help you achieve it.


However, Hypnotherapy isn’t recommended for anyone suffering from psychosis or from some types of personality disorder.

 What to Expect from Your Hypnotherapy Session


The approach used will depend on the issue you need to resolve, so there’ll first be a consultation by phone to establish what you’re looking for in your sessions.


During your Hypnotherapy session, you’ll be in a relaxed state and experience the power of suggestion for beneficial change. Under hypnosis you won’t be asleep — you’ll be fully in control and free to choose whether or not you want to take the therapist’s suggestions. You can expect to develop confidence in your ability to change.

Each therapy session is about 60 minutes long. You might feel you have a better understanding of your issues after the first session, but this is a process that requires time and effort from you.

 Treatments are in a detached building with private access in a quiet residential area. It’s easily accessible both by car and by public transport, and the building is well adapted to your comfort.

What Is Reiki?


Reiki is a gentle Japanese healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation. It translates literally as “Universal Life-force Energy” — Rei: “the wisdom and knowledge of all the universe” and Ki: “vital life-force energy”.


At the end of the 19th century, Buddhist monk Dr Mikao Usui found a way of balancing the energy and removing blockages. This was developed into a treatment system that became Reiki.


What Is Reiki Used For?


Reiki has a number of uses, including for:


  • spiritual healing
  • self-improvement
  • a complementary treatment to provide emotional support.


It treats the body, emotions, mind and spirit, offering a window of peace, comfort and tranquillity as well as bringing harmony, balance and a calmer response to life’s challenges.


What to Expect from Your Reiki Session


Your Reiki session will be a 60 minutes treatment, fully clothed, in a peaceful environment where you’ll feel comfortable, warm and protected. Reiki is a hands-on healing process, but the hands remain on or above the body, and it consequently doesn’t involve massage.


Response to Reiki is a very individual thing, and no generalisation can be given. You may feel warmth, tingling or coolness, experience seeing colours or have an emotional response. In general, though, the treatment gives you a sense of peace and well-being, with a more positive, balanced outlook.

What is Counselling?


Counselling is a talking therapy that helps you deal with emotional issues in a safe context. The key skill of a Counsellor is to be an empathic, active listener, without judgement or criticism.


In spite of what the word might suggest, a Counsellor won’t offer advice but will ask questions in response to what you say. The aim is to help you find your own solutions to your issues, rather than trying to impose a solution from outside.


What Is Counselling Used For?


The purpose of Counselling is to help you come to terms with emotional issues. However, these may derive from a wide variety of sources — psychological, physical or life events. The type of issues Counselling has been successful in treating include:


  • mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety
  • eating disorders
  • bereavement
  • relationship breakdown
  • low self-esteem
  • emotions surrounding infertility
  • work-related stress
  • emotions surrounding sexual identity


However, this is by no means a complete list of issues Counselling can help with. You’re very welcome to get in touch and discuss whether I can help you.


What to Expect from Your Counselling Session


Your Counselling session will be tailored specifically to address your particular issue, so no two sessions will be the same. However, there are some general similarities.


The most important thing is that you’re completely comfortable talking. I’ll listen to whatever you need to talk about, without judging or criticising. My only input will be to ask you questions based on what you choose to share, which are aimed to help you find your own answers.


Treatments are in a detached building with private access in a quiet residential area. It’s easily accessible both by car and by public transport, and the building is well adapted to your comfort. Alternatively, counselling sessions can be held by phone, if that’s more comfortable or convenient for you.
